FASHION DIARY: 9 DAYS, 9 OUTFITS (January 2018)

FASHION DIARY
JANUARY 2018

Dear Diary,

With the the glitz of Christmas and New Years having past, January has quietly snuck up on me. With its watchful eyes, and silent judgement, I find myself in resolution for massive changes. This is the year to change.
Believing in the watchful eyes of 2019, procrastination finds me agitated...

Today I find myself enveloped in darkness. Black. Such an attraction. I find it rather amusing how the color black flirts with the absorption of light.
Playfully encouraged, I find myself uplifted by its opposite. Ironic. love it...

Can I live in a  Chagall Painting? No feet. No boundaries. Limitless love.
Light as a feather, slightly delusional, but euphorically happy. Colors bursting with new ideas and dreaming of the impossible.
Don't control me, I am going to fly...

Frozen in the midst of winter, my heart is blossoming.
Could it be Spring so early? Still winter, and yet, I hear gentle melodies by chirping birds....

Feeling tropical today. Wearing cobalt blue and imagining the sea. chose a crop top and feeling chilly. Note to self, it's still winter...

Happiness.
Life is good.. for now.
Learning to grab the moments as they come.
POP!
Like bursting bubbles, watch out, they are fragile.

White Tiger.
There is so much strength and beauty found in the electric combination of black and white.
Forcing myself today to not depend on color, but to work with textures, and shapes...

Mopsy Maya.
Wearing my favorite cardigan, with enough absorption to mop the floor. I feel enchanted and unable to concentrate.
Do I have super powers or am I dreaming?

Officially Spring in/on my head.
Took a walk in my day dreams, and rather enjoyed it.

How was your January, friend?

Maya

How To Style Your Outfit Around Your Bathing Suit

Learning how to style your bathing suit into your daily look, is a fabulous way to enjoy the final stretch of the Summer season!
Very similar to Superman and his super suit, bathing suit style will allow you to be ready for water, anytime, anywhere.

Whenever we think of swimwear with fashion, the furthest our mind may take us is a colorful sarong, a beach dress, or some sort of cover up.
However, what about the idea of including a bathing suit as part of your fashion look?

Here are my top 4 tips on styling a look around your bathing suit:

Tip 1: Dress Light

Nothing is worse than wearing a bathing suit under another outfit on a hot day. When you style a look like this, pick the lightest fabrics, and let the suit peak through.
The more airflow around your body, the easier it will be to stay cool.

Tip 2: Do not wear expensive or sentimental jewelry.
Never forget the purpose of wearing a swimsuit, is to spontaneously swim or jump into a body of water. This bracelet by Betsey Johnson is one of my favorite pieces of costume jewelry and a nice compliment to the pink swimsuit.
In general, keep jewelry as limited as possible.

Tip 3: Pick a Color Palette Around Your Bathing Suit:

Rather than covering your bathing suit, think about featuring it.
My style inspiration for this look, was completely inspired by the vibrant orchid pink found in my suit. Because, the color is full of energy, I counter balanced the effect by pairing it with a neutral white lace dress, and white vintage bag. I tied a silk Pink Pucci scarf in reference to the color palette.

Tip 4: Have fun and enjoy life!

FASHION AND SOUL?

SOUL
-The spiritual part of a person that is believed to give life to the body and in many religions is believed to live forever.
-a person's deeply felt moral and emotional nature.

-Merriam-Webster Dictionary

We all struggle with emptiness. The unknown is dark, and scary, and often leaves us feeling lost and without purpose. Rather than facing these questions, we distract ourselves by looking to others for answers, and mimicking habits that are proven to be socially successful.

How we dress is no different. We treat what we wear as a costly game of cat and mouse. We chase, we catch, and repeat. Fashion ideas, with very little personal attention leaves the soul forgotten and lost.
Believe it or not, there is so much LIFE in deciding what you wear. What you wear is a daily question of personalization, and problem solving on the unknown variables that make you unique.
However, this is a skill. It is only as powerful as your emotional abilities to feel, create, and produce ideas into your reality.  To be able to express, and share bits of your identity requires an internal understanding of what that self identity is. Such knowledge of who you are, can only be obtained through daily practice of challenging your own internal thoughts.

A life well lived, is one that thinks, questions, and finds its own answers.

WHAT I WORE: Versailles

My style is entirely inspired by the grandeur, romance, whimsy, and mystique of Versailles. There is no place in the world that ignites my soul, and imagination, quite like Chateau de Versailles.

By borrowing from the old world, and mixing with the new, I feel my style is timelessly eclectic.

WHAT I WORE:

The choker is by CHINE, and made of silk, faux fur, and vintage ornaments. It is quite similar to the chokers worn by Marie Antoinette and add a unique texture of glamour that is something quite different from a modern day necklace.

The cardigan is by MOSCHINO and a vintage treasure! As soon as I found this turquoise delight I knew it belonged to me. Like roses bursting in the wind, it shares an air of whimsy that leaves me imagining leaves dancing along the winds of Versailles.

My coat is created by one of my favorite Scandinavian brands, Noa Noa. I bought it several years ago in Antwerp and fell in love with it largely for the color, and delicate turquoise embroidery.

There is something about the color palette of burgundy and turquoise that excites my eyes. It is unpredictable and yet pleasing.
To my surprise, the color duo is found all over the Versailles interiors.

My dress is by BCBG and is turquoise wrap dress adorned with short silk sleeves. The burgundy turtleneck is by Zara and a basic winter essential.

The boots are by Kenneth Cole and the softest, most comfortable boots I own.

My gloves are simple vintage velvet in a red toned burgundy.

Blogmas Day 5: My Favorite Holiday Concert Style!

"It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year", is a popular holiday song sung by Andy Wlliams, and it has me questioning every year, why the holidays make me smile?

One very good reason, is performing in a series of Christmas concerts! Every year, I take part in the joyous celebration of performing Holiday classics, accompanied by singers. As a violinist, I have played in many different types of shows, but there is something very special about the holiday ones. The stage is lit up, decorated and adorned with fresh poinsettia. The feeling is fresh, cheerful, and heartfelt. There is nothing overly complicated or  manipulated. No need to think, just feel.

When you play in an orchestra, you are almost always required to wear head to toe, black. However, during the holidays I push the rules a bit, and add a tiny bit of color and crystals. The above outfit is my favorite holiday orchestra attire. It is the second year I have worn it, and I still love it.

The dress is by TADASHI and the neck and sleeves are embroidered with lace and hand sewn glass beads. The shoes are by Ferragamo and embellished with crystals. The red belt is from Accessorize, and the hair clips are made of crystals.

Enjoy!

A Night at the Opera in Versailles!

A night at Versailles is never complete without a majestical concert in the the Opera House. It is an experience of a lifetime, making it almost tangible to grasp an evening with Marie Antoinette.
The house is intimate, engaging, and electric. The excellent craftsmanship of decadent gold details, are sure to delight your eyes, while music flows through your soul.

                                        WHAT I WORE

My shoes are Vintage Lord and Taylor, Bag is Valentino, and dress by vintage CHINE.

Fall Daily: Adorable Autumn Street Style!

Just as nature burns with Autumnal delight, the street style around the world, is booming with fashion!
Personal style is at an ultra high, and an attitude of confidence mixed with playfulness is this seasons highlight!
Women are emerging as unique, and embracing their inner style.
From flannel, to vintage patterns, all kinds of personal touches can be seen in this new movement towards individuality.

My Top 5 Fall Inspirations:

                                   THE FLANNEL CAPE

When it comes to flannel, there is something rather nostalgic about it for me. I can remember back to my school days, and how soft and warm it was. It is comfort fashion at its best and having it made into a chic cape, is pretty amazing.

                                   COLORFUL PATTERNS

Playful attitudes of color can be spotted in bold choices of printed textile. Mix them up with vintage pieces and you are sure to be creating trends that others will admire!

                                  SCHOOL GIRL INSPIRED

Chic versions of childhood attire is a fun way to remember your past while celebrating your present.
From sleek overalls, to school uniform skirts, there are fun ways to add playfulness to a rather bland world.

                                        BLACK and BEIGE

If elegance and sophistication is something your desire, definitely try the color combination black and beige. There is no way to screw up this magical duo. Try it,  style it, love it.

                                         THE RED SKIRT

There is something about the perfect "red skirt" that makes your feel flirty, beautiful, and unique. Figuring out which shade of red or what shape is right for you may take a lot of trial and error, but well worth it!

Fall Daily Essential: Ankle Boots + How to Pick the Right One

Ankle boots are an essential Fall wardrobe piece and picking the right one takes some fashion wisdom. After years of my own mistakes of shopping by "impulse", I have amassed quite a collection of shoes. There is a clear divide between the shoes I actually wear, verses the shoes I do not.

Over the years I have learned valuable tips to preventing shopping mistakes, and finding a product you will love for years to come. Here are my ankle boot recommendations:

If you do not own any ankle boots and plan on investing on your first pair, think practical. Do not reach for the first boot that may scream, "Awesome", but matches nothing. Control yourself and start by selecting a classic style boot, in either the color black or brown.

                              THE CLASSIC STYLE

The classic style is simple, clean lines, and with very few embellishments. It may not be the most exciting, or creative in design, but it is extremely wearable.  This type of shoe should be part of everyone's wardrobe. It matches everything you own and can be styled up or down.
Your only job is to consider the height of the heel or to opt to have no heel. This will all depend on your lifestyle and how much walking, and standing your day requires. Try it on, walk around and make sure it feels good.

                               POINTY STYLE

To point or not to point?
Being quite petite and small, I have learned over the years that a pointy tip will lengthen, and slenderize your legs. A rounded tip gives you a chunkier more casual vibe, and knowing the difference, gives you knowledgeable control. As I own both types in my collection, I tend to have rounded tips with my higher heels, and pointier tips with smaller or no heels.

                                LACE UP STYLE

Lace up boots, give off a casual vibe, and best suited for those with a more carefree lifestyle. They are extremely comfortable, and great for walking; however, they are a sportier style and are not appropriate for all situations. You can also mix this type of boot with a feminine soft style. It is a fun way to add a spicy element to a normally sweet tone.

                             EMBELLISHMENT STYLE

If I belonged to a category, it would definitely be this one. I love embellishments and unique little touches! The problem is, they are not always the easiest to style. You really need to know your wardrobe very well, and how to balance color, textures, and embellishments, in total harmony. The look can easily look a bit crazy, and become overwhelming. My number one tip is keep your clothes with the same color tone, and match the embellishments on your shoes with your accessories. It works every time!

                        PEEK-A-BOO TOE STYLE

The peek-a-boo toe is a perfect alternative for those who live in a warmer climate. It gives off the effect of a boot but can still be warn like a sandal. I would not recommend this particular style to anyone living in a colder climate, or a place that rains.
