Fall Daily: Fashion for Depressing Days!

Lets be honest, not everything about Fall is pumpkin spice and everything nice! The weather is getting colder and there is an ominous hint of gloom and darkness. Add some rain to that and things can start to look pretty negative.
Fall and Winter are the easiest months to fall into depression and on those darkest days, I like to dress exactly as I feel. Nothing bright, nothing complicated, and everything as soft as can be.

My Gloomy Day Style:

Color:
My color palette is rather dark. I gravitate to the color trio: grey, black and a hint of burgundy. Bright colors or happy patterns, rather annoy me on bad days, and I prefer to see somber colors when Im just not feeling so great.

Function:
Nothing I wear can cause me extra stress; therefore, I recommend easy style. I prefer no buttons, zippers, uncomfortable shoes, or even a purse that falls off my shoulder. All these little things cause me more stress and therefore, pushing my mood even darker.

Texture:
Soft is your friend. Cashmere, is actually the king of softness, and I will prefer it over anything on my crabby days. There is something about a big, soft sweater to protect you from the darkness and provide you with a comforting hug all day. Kitten soft UGG boots, are another cuddle for the feet.

Hide Me:
A great big, floppy hat, is a great way to feel hidden from the world. Yes, people can still see you, but for some reason, you feel like they cannot. On my depressing days I just don't want to socialize, or pretend Im feeling good. Sunglasses are also a great way to be anti-social.

Fall Daily: Art Of Layering Your Fall Outfits

Layers, layers and more layers!
Mastering your Fall style means grasping the Art of Layering. An outfit is only a complete idea, when all layers work together harmoniously. The more layers you have, the more strategic you must be. During Fall Style, shape, form, color, and textures are all factors that should be considered, and of course, staying warm!

Here are my top 3 tips on layering Fall Style:

1.) Organized Chaos
When you layer, always consider all your layers as equally important.  Most people only consider the inner-most layer as the most significant. From there we all mindlessly pile on sweaters, scarves, and a jacket. However, clothing layers are more like chapters in a book, and should always work in complete harmony. An idea should always be complete from beginning to end.

2.) Light vs. Thick
One of the biggest misconceptions about colder weather, is the need to only wear thick fabrics. Lighter chiffons, and silks which provide very little warmth, can be beautifully paired with chunkier sweaters and dresses. It is a stylish way to add a pop of color or shine, without the bulk.

3.) Texture Game
Style should always have a playful side, and layering with unexpected textures stimulate the eye. If you are wearing a simple jean, with a cuddly cashmere top, consider layering with a third or fourth texture. Try adding a fur vest, a colorful blanket scarf, or some statement jewelry. Layers are all about adding something new, and spicing up the "normal". Kick it up a notch guys!

4.) Color Scheme
If you have many layers, picking a color scheme will help you immensely. For example, if you pick a color scheme of white and black, each layer can consist of different materials and textures but the color scheme will pull it inti ine cohesive look.

Enjoy!

How to Pick Your Own Fall Fashion Colors

What does Fall Fashion mean to you? Every season we are flooded by fashion gossip murmuring the latest colors of the moment, but the million dollar question is, what colors do you want?

For me, picking colors for each season is all inspired by nature.  Growing up in Southern California, we have very minimal seasonal change. As great as it is to have sun, all day everyday, it did leave me oblivious to the miracle that mother nature conducts 4 times a year.

As the seasons change the colors found in nature are also changing. Fall, is bursting with warm colors of crimson yellow, cerulean blue, burgundy, brown, blood orange, and deep violet. These are the melodies of Fall, and incorporating the corresponding colors in your wardrobe is like dancing through the season.

Be inspired. Fashion is like painting your own scenic portrait. Think about what you love about Autumn. Is it pumpkin spice? Falling leaves? Crisp Cool air? Try pulling the colors from things that you love and add it to your seasonal wardrobe!

Fall Color Palette

Have you ever thought about the colors you wear for each season? If you are like me, and grew up in a place without seasons and constant sun, it may be hard to understand how fashion must change as the seasons do. It was only when I moved to New York and then Europe, where I understood the beauty of how mother earth changes the temperature which change the colors of our planet. During the Fall, the trees change colors, to the most beautiful hues of crimson yellow, burgundy red, meadow green, pumpkin orange, etc.,this is what makes Fall so special. Beauty in Nature is reflected in fashion. Put away your pastels, till spring, and rock the amazing Autumn colors.

DIY: STUD-it-PRETTY

As promised, I am adding some DIY's on my blog to celebrate the arrival of my favorite season, FALL! One of the things I always tell my clients, is to always be creative. Of course it is much easier to look great with a lot of money, but the truth is everyone can look amazing as long as they use their imagination and a little bit of work. One of my favorite things to do is to "make-over" my old clothing. For example, I had the most beautiful, cream cashmere sweater, honestly the softest material you will ever touch in the world. Anyways, I ruined it, there is a huge red pen mark near the stomach area, and I was devastated. However, before throwing it away, I cut off the sleeves and made some gloves very similar to my previous DIY. The quickest way to add some sparkle or some edge is to add studs. It is so easy you will be amazed at how much fun you will have! I have taken some photos to give you an idea of different types of studs, and tools you may need. All items can be found in local craft stores. Good luck! xoxo - Maya

Scarf Love for Fall!

The summer months have ended and Fall has arrived. The go to fashion accessory for Fall 2013 is a scarf. You can tie it in a bow, wrap it around, or let it hang lose. Whatever you do it is the perfect touch to transition your summer ways to chilly Fall months.
How do you find the perfect Fall scarf? Well, first consider your climate. How cold does it get? If you live in California like I do, I would suggest a light silk scarf with warm earthy tones. If you live in a colder climate, buy a thicker material but not too bulky. Remember the scarf is used as an accessory to enhance your outfit.  If you always wear black opt for a pop of color in your scarf. If you usually wear color, then perhaps opt for black or nude. Enjoy. xx
