Janelle Monae "collaborates" with Armani for a custom Golden Globes gown?!

Like knives to my heart, master designer of fashion art, has be transformed into a master seamstress.

As a long time lover of Armani Privé, one can immediately spot the use of identical textiles from his 2014-2015 Fall Collection, minus the haute couture.

Beyond the use of the innovative textiles, nothing else remains of "Armani ". 

Clearly this dress is more accurately a Janelle Monae.

Jessica Biel in Elie Saab minus the accessories. 

The plunging neckline minus the ornate choker  and matching cuffs, left me feeling a large chunk of Elie Saab's vision was deleted. 

The dress simply does not make sense without the accessories that mimics and flirts with embroidered flowers on the dress. 

The problem with the merger of "Hollywood" and "fashion" is the need to be relatable.

 Renowned stylists will edit or dumb-ify fashion masterpieces, in order to be like-able. 

The end result, is a display of glorified mediocrity, and rather ordinary fashion.

#NYFW : DELPOZO SS2017 (FT Joaquín Sorolla and Soo Sunny Park)

DELPOZO SS2017 is a collection that envelops you into a bubble of light, shapes and movement. 

There is a nostalgic feeling of tradition that runs through the blood of Delpozo, and yet there is also an undeniable pull towards the contemporary. The mind remains fresh, stable, and invigorated. 

  Creative Director, Joseph Font displays inspiration by the works of Contemporary Artist, Soo Sunny Park, and Spanish Impressionist,  Joaquin Sorolla, in his SS 2017 Collection.

Britain Museum of American Art

The creations of contemporary art that is then inspired into the fashions of Delpozo, leave the viewers breathless and awe struck. 

Boundary Conditions, 2014 is displayed at the New Britain Museum of American Art. It is a geometric wonder that displays the capricious characters of light itself. Contrasting the painting of pigment verses the painting of light, the artwork changes constantly throughout the day.

Delpoza accessories strongly resemble the Soo Young Park's 2013 creation of Unwoven Light. 

Iridescent bags, earrings and shoes evoke the power of refraction. 

Viewing such changeable factors in a light exhibition, one contemplates the relationship of ephemeral fashion verses the nature of light itself.

Unwoven Light, is featured at Rice Gallery and experiments with the character of man made light verses natural light. Manipulating light that remains constant and adding the element of natural light, creates an art piece that reveals who it really is on multiple levels.

Inspired by Spanish impressionist, Joaquin Sorolla, Joseph Font beautifully structured white dresses embody the essence of Sorolla's infamous seaside paintings filled with light. 

 Depolzo's white dresses capture the beauty of sun-bleached sundresses and  gravity defying silhouettes. 

One can almost feel, smell, and hear the seaside.

HOW VERSAILLES INSPIRES FASHION

Chateau de Versailles is a place of inspiration and dreams. A reality so unreal, it takes your breath away. It is no surprise to me that such a place, continuously creates inspiration in the world of high fashion. 

Marie Antoinette, or the Queen of fashion, was known for her quirky innovative style and trendsetting ways. Is it possible that she was also inspired by her home? 

DETAILS

When you walk through the private rooms of Marie Antoinette, take your time to see the details. 

The intricate blending of textures, colors, and shapes will leave you in awe. No detail is overlooked, and it is as if you are living in a work of art. 

COLOR

The colors found at the Petit Trianon and the Grand Trianon are exhilarating. Combinations of colors you would never imagine to cohesively work, somehow create such beauty. 

My current obsession with adding turquoise to burgundy, is highly inspired by these very rooms.

NATURE WALKS

By far, the most inspiration is found in the long walks around the grounds of versailles. 

I know it maybe tempting to rent the little golf cars or pay to be driven to each destination, but it is in these silent long walks that you get a true taste of the magic that exists. 

Some of my most inspirational moments have occurred just walking in puddles, and imagining Marie Antoinette's life. 

Fashion is most beautiful when it coexists with its surroundings. It never tries to hard, and has a melodious harmony.

MAIN CHATEAU

The main Chateau is vibrant, imaginative, and powerful. It is extremely reminiscent of Louis the XIV,  or more famously known as the Sun King. 

The energy is strong, and dynamic. 

The famous "Hall of Mirrors" is filled with glorious chandeliers and optical illusions, created by the strategic use of mirrors. 

The wooden floors are beautifully arranged in geometric design. 

GEOMETRIC BEAUTY

The use of Geometric patterns is cleverly used throughout the parks and rooms. It creates a beauty that mimics nature with a contemporary touch. 

It amazes me how such techniques of shapes and geometry are still being used in modern day fashion.

My CHANEL Style

The French fashion house of Chanel is famously known for revolutionizing the art of haute couture and everyday fashion "prêt-à-porter". The fashion house disregarded structured-silhouettes, corsets and bodices, and replaced them with garments that were functional and flattering to the curves of a woman’s silhouette. Iconically known for their tweed jackets, little black dress, and masterful use of the classic black and white, Chanel is the maestro of balancing the classics while maintaining the forward thinking of the modern woman.

My personal love for Chanel is found in their classic black and white elements, mixed with pearl embellishments. I was recently invited to try a collection of Chanel pieces, and my favorites land me always with the the classic black and white style. Chanel couture always has a level of elegance, sophistication, and power. Coco Chanel herself, was a powerful, independent, business woman, revolutionizing the male dominated fashion world in her iconic, "tweed jacket".

 There is something about Chanel style,  that allows you to remain feminine, while embracing the power within every woman.

            "Le Violon d'Ingres" Inspires Fashion Collections

 "Le Violon d'Ingres", 1924 (left) is a iconic photograph by Man Ray, inspired by French painter,Jean Auguste Domingue's, "La Grande Baigneuse" (right). 

Both works of Art depict the beauty of the female form. Like a violin, Man Ray has depicted the similarities in lines and curves that exist on the female body. 

Just as Man Ray was inspired by Domingue, his photograph has continued its inspiration into such modern day collections as Viktor & Rolf, and Agatha Ruiz de la Prada.

For those of you who may have followed my blog from the beginning, you would know that my first passion is the violin. I was classically trained in Europe and it is something extremely personal to me. For any violinist, a violin is like a relationship. Each violin is completely different and very much alive.

 It is even said to be the nearest instrument to the human voice, distinguishing genders by the different ranges of colors and tones capable by each unique voice. The inspiration is limitless and the voice is the purest form of emotion. It is no surprise, modern day fashion designers are continuously inspired by the beauty of a Violin.

Specially designed for the "8 variations for Stradivari" exhibition at Cremona, Italy (May 2013), this style is Kobi's view of the classic instrument. The brown leather mimics the warmness of carved wood and with "strings" up the heel and F-shaped "holes" on the insole and sole, the transformation into a shoe shape is complete.

People To Know: CHRISTOPHE GAILLET

Christophe Gaillet is the World and European Champion of hair, and easily in a category far above the term "Hair Sylist". As the Artistic Director of the 'Haute Coiffure Francaise', he displays hair design as a living art form. Honoring all the characteristics of 'Haute Couture', he merges the world of hair and fashion, creating an entirely new genre of "Hair Couture".

 

Collaborating with such notable fashion designers as Thierry Mugler, Nina Ricci, Paco Rabanne, Azzaro, Balenciaga, and Balmain, his work is no less poetic, and filled with movement, energy, textures, and color.

Named as  L'Oreal's Professional Hairdresser Ambassador for over 20 years, he travels the world making Prestige Shows and transmitting his famous scissors skills into a LIVE performance. Organized by L'oreal Professional, he also gives master-classes. The main elements of his teachings focus on textures, volume, perfection in shape, geometry, principles of colorimetry, and psychological elements.

In 2012, Christophe Gaillet created a stunning new collection called ‘Creative Hair Couture’. The collection consists of amazing creations with the collaboration of Balmain Hair products.

The style he creates for women, exists in the underlines of a women’s natural beauty. In his vision, delicate shades in the hair are constantly moving and pulling out life from within every woman. 

Christophe Gaillet's passions and inspirations are drawn from painting and sculpture. As a well known fact, you must know art to create art. His favorites include works by Rodin and  Camille Claudel which gives him great inspiration. Finding strength in the manipulation of the senses, Gaillet has established himself as an Artist.
