Style Tip of the Day!

Mixing and matching textures and patterns is a style technique any fashion lover should know. It is a quirky fun way, to style your outfits in a fresh new way. Mix polka dots, with stripes, floral with checkers, it's all possible now, but just wait, there is one simple rule.

Fashion Vision?

The one rule you need to know is all about colors. For example, take one textured garment, and style around it. What colors do you see? In the above checkered skirt, the featured colors are yellow and black. Stick to that color palette when mixing other pieces. 

This does not mean you cannot wear garments with any colors other than black and yellow, but that each garment should mainly feature those two colors. Why?

The pop of those two colors, reinforced in other textures, and patterns, creates uniformity in your overall style!

Kim Kardashian Murders her Pink Dior

 

Kim Kardashian is a beautiful girl with some questionable fashion choices. However, when she showed up to the Jimmy Kimmel Show, wearing a pink dress from Dior 2014 Spring Collection, cut in half and backwards, you know I would have something to say about it. 

Although she has admitted to cutting up her dress, it has never been publicly stated that she was also wearing it backwards. However, anyone who knows Dior and especially their 2014 Spring line you know their zippers are located in the front. This collection is elegant but seductive, and the peek-a-boo leg through the zipper is a flirty yet elegant way Dior has mastered femininity, yet again! 

My only question is, why wear Dior if you simply want to change it into a High School craft project?

Dior is perfection. From the stitch work, materials, to design concept, you are experiencing luxury to its fullest. Designer Couture, is pieces of ART. The horrible cropped top, stitched with bubbling, shortening of the sleeves, hem length, flipping front to back, and disregarding the open zipper and flirty black shorts is Art mutilation. This dress was murdered. 

Lady Gaga or Christmas Tree?

Fashion Icon, Lady Gaga never fails to shock her audience, and on December 8, she stepped out as her most festive self in London.

 A Christmas Tree. I wonder if she just woke up in the morning and decided, "I think I"ll be a Christmas Tree today". Or more likely it was probably a carefully crafted move by her PR team and a bunch of grown designers planning this shocking  look. She was after all performing at the Jingle Bell Ball Concert that night. 

She wore her trademark PVC black boots, a bright red structured pantsuit, and a hat structured to look like the top of a tree with ornaments, and star. Her make up was stunning, from red nails to red lips, and perfect old hollywood hair, (despite the color). In my opinion the only thing that did not hit the mark for me was the tacky cheap tree hat that looks like a child's craft project. Her whole outfit is high fashion, why the cheap looking hat topper with no imagination, a bit too literal for my taste.

I would have loved to see her with maybe a hat made out of green wires in crazy barb wire bundles, with different color gemstones glued around it as "inspirational" ornaments. For the star on top, perhaps, a soft glowing light, inside the wire.  Something artsy, something new...

My top 5 Runway Picks

The first dress is by Zac POSEN. By far my most favorite collection so far, a work of pure genius! Like soft petals of flowers, all the models were divine, elegant, and feminine. All edges were softly done and the feminity of being a woman were celebrated. A collection of pure poetry. The models, were so light and airy they might as well have been floating. The second dress is by Charlotte Ronson. Her collection was young, flirty, and floral. A very vivacious and youthful collection, giving all the models a bounce in their step. The floral prints fluttered through the runway with playful attitude and I don't think there was a girl at fashion Week who didn't want to walk away with one of these mini dresses. The third dress is by Custo Barcelona, and this collection was clever. It celebrated geometric shapes and bright colors. It was fun and new. The lines were harder than POSEN but it left an impression in my mind making it my 3rd top pick. The fourth dress is by Desigual. A collection bursting with color, best described as looking through a kaleidoscope. Every model, walking past with edge, but whimsical fun. Textile graphics were new and fresh. The fifth dress is by Rebecca Minkoff. This collection is Flowy, foral, and alive! The colors represent spring and the life that it holds. Like a garden of color, every dress in the collection, stood as beautiful reflection on Spring.

Style Tip 5: How to style a look around your shoe!

Hello darlings.We have all experienced the moment where we stand in front of our closet and say the famous words, "I have nothing to wear". The truth is, you have more than enough clothing, but you just lack inspiration. When you simply cannot think of an outfit in your head, look to your shoes for some help. Try to find your most unique pair and work an outfit around it. If all your shoes are strictly black or nothing interesting, and you have no money to go buy yourself a new pair, there are tons of DIYs on YouTube to help you out. One idea would be to paint the bottom of your shoe any color. Christian Louboutin is famous for the RED soles, and it adds instant sex appeal. Choose any color you like and paint away. From here we are ready to begin styling an outfit. Let's start out by assuming you have a very ordinary black stiletto, and you decided to paint the sole a classic red to mimic a Louboutin. From there you could be inspired to put peeks of sexy red in your accessories. Maybe wear a classic Black and White dress, with Ruby red lips, and a red bag. Whatever outfit you choose, I would choose a RED accessory. Whether it be a belt, jewelry, a scarf or a bag. Be careful not to over do it. Remember it is sexy because there is only a peekaboo of red.
