KIM KARDASHIAN'S VIRAL EFFECT ON #FASHION WEEK ?

Kim Kardashian is a media mogul and with over 84 million Instagram followers she is social media royalty. Seen at nearly every major fashion show of SS 2017, Kim K's presence weighed heavily at this years fashion week.

What are the pros and cons?

PROS

Publicity, publicity, publicity!
The sole purpose for inviting Kim Kardashian, is for her undeniably strong media power. Whether it be her reality show, or her social media platforms, one tweet, photo, or shout-out, can yield instant success.
In other words, MONEY can be made.

CONS

Drama, drama, drama!
Oh, the drama! There is no surprise that a seasoned reality pro will be dragging a LOT of drama everywhere she goes.
Take for example,  her recent robbery during Paris Fashion week.
Media coverage normally warranted to the biggest fashion houses of Paris, were completely out shined by the chaos over her multi million dollar heist.
Everywhere the Kardashian clan arises there is a media circus that causes chaos, confusion and misdirection.

So the question is,
how beneficial is Kim Kardashian's presence at Fashion Week?

Lets think for one second, not with our wallets, but with our minds and our artistic souls. How much do we sell, until we realize we have nothing left?  Every #NYFW, or fashion review, has some form of Kardashian take over, and it leaves you questioning, the price that fashion has paid.
Is it really worth the publicity, if fashion itself, dies in the social media game?

#NYFW: LOVE IT OR HATE IT? (KANYE WEST "YEEZY" SEASON 4 COLLECTION)

"I wanted to make pieces that can be timeless." "Pieces that you can pick out in a vintage store in 20 years and say, " Wow, I'm happy to have this."
-Kanye West , VOGUE

Kanye West's 'Yeezy' Season 4, was showcased on Roosevelt Island, featuring an army of models that were casted via twitter. Attracting nearly 10,000 responses, a requirement for strictly "multi-racial" models, led to a careful planned controversy, that created just the right amount of buzz leading up to his show.

The Yeezy Show, was a rather disorganized mess and the blistering heat did not help anyone. Models were wilting one by one, streaming sweat, and fogging up their clear vinyl thigh high boots. Viewers of the show could not help but feel an uncomfortable wave of absurdity. Are the models okay? How long would this last? Why are we here and how is this part of fashion week?
Unfortunately, all the social media in the world could not spice up this rather bland collection inspired by "Calabasas". The pieces were redundant from his last collection and rather basic, in structure and form. Resembling undergarments like spanx, one should never spend so much money to look so under dressed.

The whole situation reminded me of the childrens' story, The Emperor's New Clothes, where two swindler's convince an Emperor of creating the smartest outfit out of special thread that only intelligent people could see. Of course, the whole spectacle was a lie, but only the innocence of a small child could break the silence of absurdity.

Unfortunately, no such child existed on this day, and the Kardashian maufia, were spotted all over social media and fashion week, wearing Yeezy's spanx and spreading a regrettable new trend.

VMA 2015: Pop Culture, Social Media and Fashion

The VMA's are held every year on MTV, and it is an award show celebrating music, fashion and everything "pop culture". Unlike most award shows, VMA's are interesting in spotting the current trends of our society. Whether it be vulgar displays of clothing, excessive use of bad language, sexual innuendos or excessive nudity, it is alarming to think that "this" is our  society, as of right now.

1) Bad language

The use of profanity has some how become a trend. Fashion brands have celebrated such words as the F - word on cute peter pan colors, jewelry, and T-shirts. Celebrities openly shout profanity whenever they feel like, and the days of proper speech seem to have been left in the dust with our ancestors.

2.) Selfie
Nothing promotes yourself quite like a good selfie. Once were the days, when narcissism, and self obsession were a negative, shameful quality, but jump  to 2015 and its all about the ego. Whether it be Instagram, twitter, or facebook, its all about making your life seem better than it really is.

3.)  Privacy and Fashion Nudity?

Whether it be social media, or reality tv, "privacy" seems to be a thing of the past. With so little respect for keeping anything private these days, it is no surprise, fashion is in correspondence with this very attitude.
Nudity, has always been a subject of curiosity, but curiosity only exists with a bit of mystery. With so much exposed in life/body, the shock factor is "wearing" thin. Soon everything will come full circle, and celebrities will just show up naked, just as our ancestors once did.

Press and Vulgarity

The interesting thing about vulgarity is that people love it. Perhaps, we have saturated our past with so much beauty that "vulgarity" has now become a thing. Or perhaps, we have become so immune to feeling anything that we constantly desire to be shocked. Either way, shockingly gaudy, vulgar fashion is currently a "thing".

Kendall Jenner Follows Kim Kardashian's Slitty PR Tactics

Call it sibling rivalry, or sibling stupidity but Kendall Jenner was obviously inspired by Kim Kardashian's panty showing slit incident. It was only a couple of months ago, Kim Kardashian showed up to the Met Gala in a Lanvin dress with a sky high slit that exposed her panties.
The formula is simple, show your naked bits, and get a lot of press. However, if you are gonna copy, why not do it better? Kendall not only doubled the slit power but made it beyond clear to everyone she had ditched her panties on her recent red carpet at the VMMA's.

PROOF SHE DID IT FOR PUBLICITY

If you compare Kendall's Slits to the 2014 Fausto Puglisi Campaign model, it is beyond obvious the slits were intentionally widened significantly to emphasize she was commando. The slits are already sky high, do you really need to widen them even more? Really? Obviously, a deliberate stunt to get more pictures taken and more people talking.
Changes like these to a designers vision is exactly what is wrong with the mix of fashion and celebrities addicted to fame. If you look at the photo on the right it is obvious, Puglisi's vision was a twist of regal, and punk rock edge. The dress is meant to be worn looser as if a regal queen took some scissors and freed herself from restriction. The slits are risqué, but not vulgar.
However, when the slits were doubled in width, and the proportions were tightened around her hips, the entire dress fell apart. Now the eye can only stare at the the naked bits and the beautiful flow of the A-line is lost. The look transformed from powerful woman, to slutty naked girl.
This is a classic example of people who sell themselves seeking a platform, even though they have absolutely nothing to say.

Kendall Jenner Outshines Kim Kardashian at Met Gala!

Last night Kendall Jenner was both breath-taking and glamorous, in her custom, Top Shop gown.
Ever since her Vogue debut this year, she is proving to the fashion world that she is always a step ahead of her famous older sister when it comes to fashion.  From her hair, down to her toes, she was styled to perfection. Perfectly, on theme with the "Charles James" Met exhibition, she looks like she could have come straight out of the pages of VOGUE.
Either she is born with an incredible sense of style, or she is just extremely clever and listens to the right people. Which ever is the case, Kim Kardashian definitely could learn a thing or two from her younger sister.

Kim Kardashian on the other hand, struggled with her Met Gala attire. She was spotted leaving Lanvin, with a side slit so high up, that her "unmentionables" were all on display. Double sided tape anyone?

To LANVIN's surprise, somehow between leaving their store and arriving at the Met, she edited her look. She opted out of her leather cuff bracelets and edgy matching belt, and switched up her shoes and belt for something a bit more "classic", however, it ended up altering the entire look in a boring way. The belt, cuffs, and shoes, all worked together harmoniously creating that signature LANVIN edge, and without it, the entire look landed rather flat.
Here is where I agree with her. She was definitely not dressed according to theme, and her look was a bit too rock & roll leaving LANVIN. However, changing it up on her car ride toward the event made the look neither elegant nor better. In fact it made the entire look undone, and rather amateur.
Unfortunately, Kim has developed a bit of a habit of chopping up her Designer duds, or adding her own twist, but never does she quite hit the fashion mark.

3 Reasons Anne Wintour Should Regret KIMYE Cover

Unless you live under a rock, you have heard about the public outrage over Kim Kardashian and Kanye West cover debut on Vogue. Anne Wintour has publicly stated, “As for the cover, my opinion is that it is both charming and touching, and it was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it; you may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancee on Vogue‘s cover. He did nothing of the sort. The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn’t true.”

We all know, Anne Wintour is a shrewd business woman and the Kardashian/Kanye cover was strategically all about business. After all, the couples' combined social media power is around 30 million where as Vogue's number hits around 3.6 million. Wintour, is more than aware Kardashian is not a fit for the brands label, but in many ways, sold her fashion soul, in pursuit to sell more magazines.

3 Reasons Anne Wintour should have thought twice about KIMYE cover.
1.)The backlash
The public is outraged. Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar led the charge with a tweet that read “Well……I guess I’m canceling my Vogue subscription. Who is with me???” Gellar’s call for a boycott has been retweeted over 8,000 times and favorited by more than 11,000 people. Vogue’s Facebook page has been flooded with angry messages  and cries of disappointment. One comment reading, I’m done with Vogue. Subscription cancelled sick to death of Kanye and Kim used to be high fashion, your standards have been highly compromised!!!!!!”

2.)Vogue As a Brand

Vogue is perhaps one of the few if not the only fashion magazines left, that represent high fashion as an art form. With genius photographer Annie Leibovitz as their right hand,  month after month, the readers of this esteemed magazine have been left awed by the beautiful creations on the pages of Vogue. The keyword is ART, and Vogue has been respected for their taste, choices, and expression of  fashion as a brand of quality.

The placement  of Kim on the cover cheapens their principles simply because she is an icon for "popularity". She has been documented on her own reality show, letting her now fiance, Kanye, completely remodel her image. He basically dresses her like a doll, and directs her entire wardrobe, buying her new ones that he believes suitable. Yes, they represent current pop culture, but whether it is a "positive" representation, I would have to plead the 5 th. The day fashion is lead and inspired by whoever has the most twitter followers is a sad and funny day indeed.

3. The death of Vogue?

Of course, despite all the outrage, this will not be the end of Vogue, nor Anne Wintour. In fact, it might have even boosted their sales. The fear lies, in the direction Wintour plans on taking this magazine.

Wintour wrote, "Part of the pleasure of editing Vogue, one that lies in a long tradition of this magazine, is being able to feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it. I think we can all agree on the fact that that role is currently being played by Kim and Kanye to a T."

Although, Wintour writes beautifully, it is basically applauding what is popular, simply for being popular. If she honestly believes Kardashian and Kanye define our culture at the given moment, and are the biggest influencers of our time, we are seriously a pathetic species.

For the sake of fashion, it is my hope Anne Wintour regains her Fashion Soul and remembers the esteem and respect attached to VOGUE.

There will always come a point, where you will be tempted to gain power and numbers but, none of that should ever outweigh the value of ART and the need for it in our society.

Kim Kardashian Murders her Pink Dior

Kim Kardashian is a beautiful girl with some questionable fashion choices. However, when she showed up to the Jimmy Kimmel Show, wearing a pink dress from Dior 2014 Spring Collection, cut in half and backwards, you know I would have something to say about it.

Although she has admitted to cutting up her dress, it has never been publicly stated that she was also wearing it backwards. However, anyone who knows Dior and especially their 2014 Spring line you know their zippers are located in the front. This collection is elegant but seductive, and the peek-a-boo leg through the zipper is a flirty yet elegant way Dior has mastered femininity, yet again!

My only question is, why wear Dior if you simply want to change it into a High School craft project?
Dior is perfection. From the stitch work, materials, to design concept, you are experiencing luxury to its fullest. Designer Couture, is pieces of ART. The horrible cropped top, stitched with bubbling, shortening of the sleeves, hem length, flipping front to back, and disregarding the open zipper and flirty black shorts is Art mutilation. This dress was murdered.
