Are You A Fashion Trend Puppet?

Open any fashion magazine, or click on any fashion blog, there is no avoiding fashion chatter on TRENDS. What is the color of the season? The bag of the moment? What are the must have items that keep you fashionable and flocking like little puppets to buy every season? Why do we do it and why are we so fascinated in being little fashion clones?

The truth of the matter is, trends thrive off of our own insecurities. Our inability to make decisions of our own and our need for acceptance. Just like in High School when we desperately wanted to look like those "popular" girls roaming the halls, we now look to celebrities to see what they are wearing and how we can some how recreate that look.

Yes, believe it or not overalls are currently on trend. Like all the magazines are saying, the 90's are back, and with that said, go get yourself some overalls!
Actually, hold that thought, and just take a moment to think about how original or authentic clothes or fashion items you see on celebrities or "popular" fashion bloggers really are. How manipulated are you? I hate to break it to you, but there is a reason celebrities are flooded with free merchandise. When you see a re-occurring theme, think for a second, chances are, brands have strategically sent out massive amounts of free overalls right before they are cleverly pushed onto racks for you to buy. It takes only a handful of celebrities to wear them in order to get a trend started. This also holds true for fashion gurus on youtube or fashion blogs. If you start seeing the same bag, cosmetic product, or accessory on multiple sites, chances are the Brand had something to do with it.

“Ultimately, we need no more clothes. We could function with everything that’s on the earth right now. So you have to have this reason to want things."
-Jeremy Scott of Moschino regarding his 2014 Collection  below.

Believe it or not FASHION is the opposite of TRENDS. The popular belief of "trendy" as  being fashionable is completely false.
Fashion is a way of life, that should be unique and customized to you. It is your story and it should be meant as your form of expression. When your vision of who you are become clearer your fashion opinions will become stronger. You regain the power of what you want rather than what you are told you should want.
Find your own Style,  and you will free yourself from the puppet strings of fashion TRENDS.

PR 2014: My AIRPORT STYLE

My travel style is quirky and comfortable. I wear only light fabrics, cashmere in the winter, cotton linen in the summer. I like my clothes to feel effortless and flowing. I usually stick to the color palette around grey and black simply because traveling for many hours usually attracts dirt an starts looking quite dirty. Stella McCartney's bag is by far the best travel bag. Not only does it look amazing but it fits a lot. Other must haves are a watch, headphones, sunnies, and amazing flats.
Bon Voyage!

PR 2014: Key Pieces for Airport Style

Airport Style! In 2013, most of us flipped through celebrity magazines, envying celebrities who looked amazing with no make-up fresh off the plane. How do they do it? What do they have that sets us a part from them?

The answer lies in a few key items that you should always consider.

Cool sunglasses:
You may think it is unnecessary to have them with you but they are fantastic for sleeping in the airplane, or airport, and they are a life saver at covering your no-makeup face with dark circles.

Leggings & Jeggings:
Stretch is your friend. Not only is it slimming but it allows you to move with ease.

Scarf:
Nothing adds effortless style like a light-weight scarf. It is also useful to cuddle with as a mini blanket when you take short naps here and there.

 Flats:
As much as I am a believer in the beauty of a good high heel, I do believe in the airport it is not appropriate. It visually looks painful to see a woman lugging bags and walking up and down escalators in sky high heels. This is the time to embrace your gorgeous ballet flats, trendy sneakers, or loafers. If you want to look sexy, carry a pair of sexy heels in your bag, but either way always have flats with you.

Big Bag:
As much as I love a small cross body clutch, when you are traveling there are essentials you need and a good sturdy bag can be the difference between a good trip and a uncomfortable one.

Jacket:
My favorite type of jacket for the airport is a light weight, cashmere, over sized knit. It is basically the softest blanket shaped to fit you like a jacket. It is snuggly soft and allows for the most comfortable trip.

Lip balm:
Chapped lips are never sexy. My favorite products are CARMEX, and Dior

PR 2014 Trend Report: Show Some Ankle

In 2014 Runways were filled with showing some ankle. Cropped pants or rolling the pants slightly shorter is on trend. This look adds boyish charm and looks amazing with blazers, cropped tops,
boyfriends shirt, and oversized sweaters.

Too cold to reveal some ankle just yet? Not to worry this look is fantastic for showing off fun socks, or sexy ankle boots.

Revamp your wardrobe by adding a new cropped pant, or simply roll and old pair up.

PR 2014: Runway Trend Alert, 60's!

2014 Fashion Runway was filled with 60's infused looks! Stay fresh on the ball  and revamp your wardrobe by finding key pieces that are iconic for the 60's!

When I think of iconic 60's, think of Twiggy, and Audrey Hepburn, "Breakfas t at Tiffany's". It is a fashion era that gave birth to Quirkiness. It is playful, colorful, and fun.

What to look for to be 60's inspired.
* fun sunglasses: cat eye, interesting designs, etc.
*polka dots
*stripes
*short, colorful baby doll dresses
*knee high socks
*geometric designs
*big statement earrings

Adding a few 60's iconic pieces, will guarantee added spice to your old wardrobe while keeping you fresh on trend. If you can't afford straight off the runway, pay some love to your local vintage shops or Thrift stores. They make fantastic shops to find the most hidden gems!

A Royal Affair!

Currently my favorite trend are the fabulously luxurious fabrics of 18th century, French aristocracy. Think embroidery, silks, and decadence. The designers have geniously entwined modern cuts with fabrics from the past. Nothing makes a woman feel as feminine and regal as a beautiful tapestered look. Add some statement jewelry and the only thing missing is a regal red carpet to adorn your precious little feet. xx - maya

Scarf Love for Fall!

The summer months have ended and Fall has arrived. The go to fashion accessory for Fall 2013 is a scarf. You can tie it in a bow, wrap it around, or let it hang lose. Whatever you do it is the perfect touch to transition your summer ways to chilly Fall months.
How do you find the perfect Fall scarf? Well, first consider your climate. How cold does it get? If you live in California like I do, I would suggest a light silk scarf with warm earthy tones. If you live in a colder climate, buy a thicker material but not too bulky. Remember the scarf is used as an accessory to enhance your outfit.  If you always wear black opt for a pop of color in your scarf. If you usually wear color, then perhaps opt for black or nude. Enjoy. xx
