PR 2014: Key Pieces for Airport Style

Airport Style! In 2013, most of us flipped through celebrity magazines, envying celebrities who looked amazing with no make-up fresh off the plane. How do they do it? What do they have that sets us a part from them?

The answer lies in a few key items that you should always consider.

Cool sunglasses:
You may think it is unnecessary to have them with you but they are fantastic for sleeping in the airplane, or airport, and they are a life saver at covering your no-makeup face with dark circles.

Leggings & Jeggings:
Stretch is your friend. Not only is it slimming but it allows you to move with ease.

Scarf:
Nothing adds effortless style like a light-weight scarf. It is also useful to cuddle with as a mini blanket when you take short naps here and there.

 Flats:
As much as I am a believer in the beauty of a good high heel, I do believe in the airport it is not appropriate. It visually looks painful to see a woman lugging bags and walking up and down escalators in sky high heels. This is the time to embrace your gorgeous ballet flats, trendy sneakers, or loafers. If you want to look sexy, carry a pair of sexy heels in your bag, but either way always have flats with you.

Big Bag:
As much as I love a small cross body clutch, when you are traveling there are essentials you need and a good sturdy bag can be the difference between a good trip and a uncomfortable one.

Jacket:
My favorite type of jacket for the airport is a light weight, cashmere, over sized knit. It is basically the softest blanket shaped to fit you like a jacket. It is snuggly soft and allows for the most comfortable trip.

Lip balm:
Chapped lips are never sexy. My favorite products are CARMEX, and Dior

Gucci Fall/ Winter Collection + Make-up & Hair

Gucci Fall/Winter Collection, by Frida Giannini, premiered in Milan, was comprised of the skinniest, second-skin, body-conscious silhouette you are ever likely to see on a Gucci catwalk and some might wonder if this had something to do with the designer's new form. Giannini carving back to Gucci’s roots of a tough power woman in spike metal heels, a determined thing, the sort of woman who can carry off a nipped-waist peplum jacket and pencil skirt in shiny ‘crackle’ black python - no problemo - has little use for a bag (unless it has an iconic Gucci bamboo handle) and never travels ‘commercial’. ‘The Gucci woman seduces with her dangerous femininity,’ said Giannini, ‘She is steely, yet sexy – defining her discipline with femme fatale vices. She wears sculpted dresses with pure graphics, all the while alluding to devious touches.’ The show notes also told us that she had been inspired by the artist Allen Jones, his fetish aesthetics, hence the super-constructed dresses everywhere, the ultra fitted jackets with ‘egg-shaped’ shoulders, the leather polonecks and skirts with very long slits at the back. There was also a small nod to menswear with over sized coats, their sleeves also cut in the round to produce a neat cocoon shape, worn over trousers that were so stringent they looked as if they had been laminated to the body. The general mood was dark – not least because of all the black, offset with deep wine shades, rust and moss green. When the lights dimmed and the spotlight came on to signal the start of the eveningwear, it was a different story. Naturally, the silhouette remained super-attenuated, but the colour flooded in. Picked out on the sheerest of net and the richest peacock blue, claret or gold satin, were embroidered feathers, studs and sequins in wing shaped arrangements – ‘intersecting punk with couture’ the notes read – that will look truly awesome, should the lucky woman who has the figure to wear such a creation be patient enough to be stitched into one. Once again, Frida Giannini displayed her intrinsic knowledge and feel for her core customer - the woman who’s middle name is Power.

Warm Berries

Hello Ladies! My personal favorite Fall color is Berry Red. No matter what the trend maybe, this is my Fall go to color. It is a cross mix between, red, purple, and pink. It reminds me of warm crackling fires, and hot apple cider. Perfect for those chilly fall nights, or shopping for a punmpkin. I have gathered some of my personal must haves, in this fabulous color. From a sweater, a t-shirt, or a shoe, I find ways to sneak this fabulous color into my daily looks. If you are a pink lover, berry red is the perfect color to transitition into the fall. take care. x -m

Quirky Loafer DIY

Kitty cat, DIY. This is a super easy way to Quirk up your simple, untinteresting loafer. All you need are some scissors, tiny scraps of leather for the ears, gold puffy paint, and a hot glue gun. Design the face as you like, and add ears. If you are thinking, is this look a bit inmature for a fashionista out of college and in the professional work world? As long as you stick to only gold paint and a dark colored loafer, I promise you the kitty design is not too noticeable, and will make you smile every time you glance at them. When people finally realize they are cats, I guarantee it will strike up a conversation, and instant charm to your image. How would I wear them? I love to sport a crisp white man's shirt, with tight black leggings, and gold jewelry. My hair would be tied in a pony tell curled, and my make up would be minimal and fresh. Think Quirky Audrey Hepburn. xx -m

Rockin' and Roses!

If you love roses as much as I do, you are in luck this season. Designers from Valentino, YSL, to Lanvin, have created a spring trend for Fall. Never have roses looked warmer and more seductive. Violets, roses or peonies, don't be afraid to rock them out with some black tights, boots, and dark crimson lips. Just keep in mind the Autumn color palette, and prevent the pastel freshness of Spring. Take care and stay warm! xx -M

Fall Color Palette

Have you ever thought about the colors you wear for each season? If you are like me, and grew up in a place without seasons and constant sun, it may be hard to understand how fashion must change as the seasons do. It was only when I moved to New York and then Europe, where I understood the beauty of how mother earth changes the temperature which change the colors of our planet. During the Fall, the trees change colors, to the most beautiful hues of crimson yellow, burgundy red, meadow green, pumpkin orange, etc.,this is what makes Fall so special. Beauty in Nature is reflected in fashion. Put away your pastels, till spring, and rock the amazing Autumn colors.

My top 5 Runway Picks

The first dress is by Zac POSEN. By far my most favorite collection so far, a work of pure genius! Like soft petals of flowers, all the models were divine, elegant, and feminine. All edges were softly done and the feminity of being a woman were celebrated. A collection of pure poetry. The models, were so light and airy they might as well have been floating. The second dress is by Charlotte Ronson. Her collection was young, flirty, and floral. A very vivacious and youthful collection, giving all the models a bounce in their step. The floral prints fluttered through the runway with playful attitude and I don't think there was a girl at fashion Week who didn't want to walk away with one of these mini dresses. The third dress is by Custo Barcelona, and this collection was clever. It celebrated geometric shapes and bright colors. It was fun and new. The lines were harder than POSEN but it left an impression in my mind making it my 3rd top pick. The fourth dress is by Desigual. A collection bursting with color, best described as looking through a kaleidoscope. Every model, walking past with edge, but whimsical fun. Textile graphics were new and fresh. The fifth dress is by Rebecca Minkoff. This collection is Flowy, foral, and alive! The colors represent spring and the life that it holds. Like a garden of color, every dress in the collection, stood as beautiful reflection on Spring.

NY Fashion Week 2014 Spring

Style Tip 6: New Trend: Man's Bowtie!

Hello Darlings! You heard it here first! Bow ties are the next hot thing! Believe it or not, bow chokers have been popular since the 18th century, and why not? Everyone cannot deny the charm of a good bow. It adds immediate feminity to boyish charm. I love to wear them with blazers, and a crisp white shirt. You can also wear them as chokers, with flowy dresses or blouses. The only thing to be careful are the accessories. A bow should not be over styled. Do not add too many accesories, or colors. This could make you come off looking like a clown. If a Bow tie is too much of a leap, try tying a cute little bow around your neck, it can be tight, or lose. I guarantee it will add immediate charm! Good luck. Xo maya

Styling Tip 4: How to Layer Necklaces

Hello darlings! One of the quickest ways to bring your "look" to the next level is by using statement jewelry. I often layer my jewelry and then have that inspire the rest of the outfit. Layering at first can be a bit tricky so I have some helpful tips to help you from looking like a Christmas tree. *Tip* The jewelry you layer should somehow make sense. If you have never layered jewelry, start out by matching same materials or colors. For example, all gold, or all beads, or all black...etc. *Tip* Lengths. Play with different lengths when layering.one choker, one long, etc. *Tip* If you use one bulky statement piece, the rest should accompany it. Think a little longer, and lighter. *Tip* Keep your outfit simple. When you make such a statement with your jewelry, keep your outfit and shoes neutral or one color. Let your Jewelry be the featured piece of Art. If you can't decide, just wear head to toe black and have some crazy statement jewelry. *Tip* Be Creative! Trust your eye. Think outside of what you know, and bring out your inner Fashionista! Xo Maya

Style Tip 2: Styling the Little Black Dress

Hello darlings! We have all heard about the necessity of all girls, of any age to find that special, "Little black dress". But do we really know why it is so important? The truth is, it is extremely versatile, and it can be styled in every possible occasion. If you can only invest in one, I suggest going for a fabric that can go either day or night. Choose a shape that flatters your body type and not too long. Stay away from added embellishments such as beads, flowers, or decorations. The key is to pick a dress that is simple. If you follow these rules, you will get more opportunities to wear it. Casual day: Take your little black dress and match it with some sneakers, a cool scarf and matching bag. It is effortless cool, and you will be comfortable all day. If you want to dress down the look quickly, take a simple flannel shirt, wear it open, and sitch the waste with a belt. Date Night: The looks I have prepared, are great for business women who want a cool outfit that is sexy enough to go on a quick lunch date, or after work. A quick style tip, wear your most unique pumps and work your outfit around the shoe. The simplicity of the black dress will showcase the shoe and give immediate sex appeal. Special Occasion: If you pick a mini for your dress, you can simply add a longer, light weight skirt over it. This will add some length and give a more "formal" look. Have fun playing around with your Littleblack dress! Xo maya

Finish off with a nice statement necklace, a beachy hat and you are perfectly styled. 2) Date Night. Sexy. Edgy. Trendy. Take your white tee and pair it with a leather jegging. Add a sparkly cardigan or romper and instant , "Rock Glam". Finish off the look with ethnic jewelry and you will be a show stopper! 30) Black tie. Elegant. Sophisticated. Quirky.
